How are you spending your summer vacation? Rabbi Avraham Hoffman is passing the time by donating the his kidney to a complete stranger. The organ will go to a 62-year-old mother of two in Queens with polycystic kidney disease.
The woman had already been waiting for over a year for a kidney transplant when she got the news.
“We have a saying in Hebrew … ‘If not now, when?’ ” Hoffman said. “If I don’t donate now, hospitals might not let you donate past a certain age so I figure — here’s my opportunity.”
With such a willingness to do good, it’s no surprise this story has spread to various news outlets. Rabbi Hoffman is a father of 9, and a grandfather of 25.
