Work had to be  halted after construction workers made a gruesome discovery of two bodies in the hard ground.  ZAKA was called in and they worked for hours to carefully remove the remains of the two soldiers in uniforms and helmets at a Jerusalem construction site.

“This is not a situation we encounter on our daily routine as ZAKA volunteers. It was a complex operation. We had to dig for hours in rocky ground until we knew we had recovered all the bones for the two skeletons,” ZAKA volunteer Nati Blech said.

Police investigators speculate that the bodies date back to pre-1948. Before the establishment of the State of Israel. The remains were sent to the Abu Kabir Forensic Institute in Tel Aviv to be identified.
