Low Cost Flight Now Available from Israel to US via Iceland Under New Agreement

On Sunday the Israeli government approved an agreement between Israel and Iceland that will immediately allow low-cost flights between Israel and the US via Iceland.

Transportation and Intelligence Minister Yisrael Katz of the Likud party initiated the agreement.

The new flights will cost approximately $500 in total, between $260-280 each way.

Katz recently told Iceland’s WOW air that starting in June, he intends to run four flights a week from Tel Aviv through Reykjavik, Iceland’s capital.Travelers will then be able to transfer to flights headed to nine different destinations in North America.

Israel was chosen by WOW from a list of dozens of countries and destinations which requested the company run flights to their countries.

The U.S. destinations included in the list are Miami, New York, Chicago, Boston, Washington, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, as well as Canadian destinations include Toronto and Montreal.

At a government meeting, Katz said the agreement was signed as part of Israel’s “Open Skies” plan.

“The Open Skies agreement is part of the a revolutionary plan intended to allow Israeli consumers to fly to new destinations at low prices,” Katz said.

Several new airlines have been brought to Israel under the agreement flights have been offered to several destinations at low prices. Some of the new airlines included are Cathay Pacific, which offers five direct weekly flights from Tel Aviv to Hong Kong, and Ryanair, which has begun offering flights to Cyprus.
