Kosher beer, bourbon, and BBQ-who’s in?

At 8:30 pm, the night of August 26th, at Temple Beth Hillel Beth El of Wynnewood, is having a massive BBQ event. Grill masters have traveled across the U.S., from Texas to New York to compete in the first ever Philadelphia Kosher Barbecue. This is a competition on a grand scale- featuring, ribs, turkey, chicken, and brisket all in the guidelines of the Kansas City Barbecue Society.  After Saturday night, “The mother of all kosher BBQs” HavaNaGrilla will take place on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is a family fun filled event. There will be BBQ, games, contests, and Scotch and Bourbon tastings. The Kosher Guru is the official MC, along with other celebrity chefs.

The head of this event, Dr. Stuart “Stu” Gordon, went and got many volunteers from a Mens Club meeting. Dr. Gordon stated “besides good food and family entertainment, it’s a way of teaching Jewish values and kindle community spirit”. In addition, Gordon wanted this event to hold credibility. So he contacted the KCBS; however, the KCBS had no guidelines for kosher BBQ. So then he contacted Rabbi Mendel Segal of Kansas City Chabad, and they had the competition arranged.

The whole night and following day they will have a mashgiach on the sight. A celebrity chef guest judge, Alon Shaya of New Orleans, will be judging the competition. He was recently voted ” Best Chef of the South”.

Cant wait to see you at the Event!
