New York Giants offensive lineman Adam Bisnowaty (23) is a proud Jew, an anomaly in the NFL.
“One of the first things I tell people is that I’m Jewish,” he told JTA. “People don’t meet a lot of Jewish football players, so I always like to bring that out and just open up, so it’s nice and easy.” (Times of Israel)
He even struck up a ‘friendship’ with a beloved kosher food purveyor. When the Manischewitz corporation heard that Adam was happily representing Jews on his team, they jumped on the PR opportunity and sent him a huge care package of matzah.
Jews in the NFL in the past have included brothers Mitch & Geoff Schwartz, both offensive lineman star wide receiver Julian Edelman, and special teams ace Nate Ebner.
Another fun fact: Bisnowaty’s uncle David was the first Israeli to become an elected parliament member in the southeastern African nation of Malawi.
