RUSSIA UNDER TERROR – LATEST: One of the St. Petersburg suspects walked into a police station, to say  “I’m innocent”

According to local Russian media outlets earlier, the bearded man was captured on CCTV footage after reports he’d allegedly left a briefcase filled with explosives on a metro train.

Another Muslim, (pictured below) believed to be a 23-year-old from ‘central Asia’ is said to be the suspect.

The latest suspect is said to have blown himself up in the attack

The Interfax news agency says Russian police think the suspect blew himself up in the attack.

An unidentified law enforcement official said that investigators believe the suspect carried an explosive device packed with ball bearings onto the train in a backpack.

The 23-year old suspect in the blast came from formerly Soviet Central Asia and was linked to radical Islamic groups.

Russian President Vladimir Putin tonight laid flowers in memory of the dead at an  memorial where candles are being lit by locals.

Monday’s explosion in a subway car killed at least 11 and wounded 50 others. Officials say the death toll could climb to 20 as many are very seriously wounded.  The attack is said to have occured less than 500 meters from where Russian President Vladimir Putin was meeting with the president of Belarus in St. Petersburg, Putin’s home town.

The Kremlin released a statement that U.S. President Donald Trump  called Russian President Vladimir Putin to offer condolences to the families of the victims of Monday’s blast and asked Putin to convey his support for the Russian people. The Kremlin said Putin thanked Trump for the expression of solidarity. The statement added that the two leaders both agreed that “terrorism is an evil and  must be fought jointly.”
