At a small Jewish cemetery in Wadwisse, France, a small village situated 215 miles east of Paris, 40 of the 50 headstones were smashed and toppled over.
The France3 television channel reported the vandalism at the 18th-century cemetery on Thursday. The cemetery is no longer in use.
This is the second time the cemetery has been vandalized since 2014. The previous attack was carried out by three young men who subsequently received suspended sentences. Police are currently investigating the most recent attack.
In a separate incident, the Ekathimerini daily reported that a monument commemorating the Holocaust in the Greek municipality of Kavala was smashed one year after its unveiling in memory of 1,484 locals who were murdered. The vandals smash the marble façade with a hammer, which is emblazoned with a Star of David, according to the report.
Police have no suspects in custody.
