Mazal tov to Rabbi Liraz and Anat Zaira on the birth of their sixth son at Shaare Zedek Medical Center!

Mazal tov to Rabbi Liraz and Anat Zaira on the birth of their sixth son at Shaare Zedek Medical Center! Rabbi Liraz Zaira, a reserve soldier and military major, was seriously injured in a grenade explosion in October 2025 and lost both of his legs. After a long rehabilitation journey, he continues to inspire students and spread strength and joy to those around him. Yesterday, Rabbi Liraz held his newborn son for the first time — a healthy baby boy weighing 3.6 kg. The couple’s newest addition joins their other children in a family filled with faith, resilience, and love. Rabbi Zaira shared: ‘The birth experience was wonderful. We thank God for a healthy baby, the dedicated midwife, and the incredible medical teams at Shaare Zedek who supported us with such sensitivity and devotion.’ Wishing the Zaira family continued strength, happiness, and many beautiful moments together. 🇮🇱 Am Yisrael Chai 💙

Mayim Bialik meets Israeli president Rivlin

JERUSALEM ( JTA ) — Israel’s president welcomed American actress Mayim Bialik to his residence in Jerusalem. On Sunday, Reuven Rivlin told Bialik that he had heard so much from his grandchildren about her, her work as an actress and her strong support for Israel. The star of the hit television series “The Big Bang Theory” is in Israel to participate in the Global Forum for Combating Anti-Semitism, which starts Monday in Jerusalem. “My family came to live in Israel when I was born, and they lived in a few places around the country, so I grew up with a strong Zionist identity,” she told Rivlin. Bialik, 41, has a doctorate in neuroscience and plays neuroscientist Amy Fowler-Farrah on her show. A divorced mother of two sons, she was raised Reform and now practices Modern Orthodoxy. In many int

AMAZING! Israeli and Iranian soccer players take a photo together

JERUSALEM ( JTA ) — An Israeli soccer player posted a photo on social media of him clowning with an Iranian soccer player. “In soccer there are different rules and there is one language without prejudice and without wars,” Maor Buzaglo, 30, wrote in Hebrew on Facebook and Twitter. “The captain of the Iranian national team and I show it can be different.” Buzaglo, who plays for Maccabi Haifa and Israel’s national team, is in London for treatment of a knee injury. He is pictured sitting on a training table next to Ashkan Dejagah, the captain of Iran’s national team who plays for a team in London. Dejagah, an Iran native who grew up in Germany, was criticized by the Jewish community in his new country in 2007 for refusing to play with the German Under 21 team in Israel. At the time he said he

WOW! A chareidi woman was the first Israeli woman to finish the Jerusalem Marathon

Tens of thousand participated in the 8th Jerusalem Marathon this past erev Shabbos, including Betty Deutsch, a Chareidi resident of the Har Nof neighborhood of Jerusalem, who came in first place for women among Israelis. While there were other women who crossed the finish line ahead of her, they were runners from abroad. Betty (Batya) was the first Israeli woman to cross the finish line, the fifth female and 25th overall quickest runner to finish the 42K (26 mile) marathon, which she completed in 3 hours, 9 minutes and 48 seconds. However, what stood out about Deutsch was her head covering, long skirt and shirt sleeves and her young children cheering on from the sidelines. Batya is a 28-year-old mother of five who came on Aliyah from the USA five years ago. She has full-time job at a nonpr

Misbehaved Yeshiva Students Are Expelled From Their Yeshiva for Acting as Extras in a TV Show About Misbehaved Yeshiva Students Expelled From Their Yeshiva

(From Tablet Mag ) If you’re serious about TV—and, really, why wouldn’t you be? What else is there these days?—you’ve probably already heard about Shababnikim , arguably the best Israeli show since, well, Srugim , or Fauda , or whatever other Israeli show you may be obsessed with. It follows four friends at the finest of Jerusalem’s yeshivot who care more about smoking, sipping Nespresso, and watching Van Damme films than about spending their days poring over mishnayot . If you speak any Hebrew, check it out online: It is, as Karen Skinazi wrote in Tablet recently, “Tarantinoesque dark,” which means that when you see these dudes in their black suits, white shirts, and black hats, you expect mayhem to giddily follow along. And follow along it does: According to the haredi press in Israel, t

Paul McCartney wins Israel's prestigious 'Wolf Prize'

JERUSALEM ( JTA ) — Paul McCartney is one of nine laureates announced for Israel’s prestigious Wolf Prize. McCartney is one of two recipients of the 2018 Wolf Prize in Music, Israel’s President Reuven Rivlin announced Monday. Each year the Wolf Foundation awards $100,000 prizes in five fields. More than 30 winners have gone on to receive the Nobel Prize. The announcement called McCartney “one of the greatest songwriters of all time. Trump: 'Jerusalem declaration is high point of my time in office.'

( JTA ) – President Donald Trump told an Israeli newspaper that his Dec. 6 declaration recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital was the high point of his time in office. In the Hebrew-language translation of an excerpt from Trump’s interview with Israel Hayom editor-in-chief Boaz Bismuth, Trump said that both Israel and the Palestinians would need to compromise significantly to achieve peace. Trump was replying to a question on whether Israel would have to give something in return for the declaration. Calling the city “your wonderful capital,” he added that its recognition as Israel’s capital was very important for many people whom Trump said thanked him. Trump described the move as an important promise he made and kept. The president also said he understands why previous presidents who s

You'll never guess how Vladimir Putin got an apartment in Tel Aviv

JERUSALEM ( JTA ) — Russian President Vladimir Putin is now the proud owner of an apartment in downtown Tel Aviv. He inherited the 1 1/2-bedroom apartment from his former high school German teacher, Mina Yuditskaya Berliner , who died in December at 96, Ynet reported . Berliner left the apartment to Putin via the Russian Embassy. It was Putin, in fact, who bought the apartment for her in 2005. Berliner immigrated to Israel from the Soviet Union in 1973. But she had followed her former student’s rise through the political ranks in Russia. According to Ynet, Putin and his teacher were reunited in 2005, when the Russian president visited Israel. She had asked the Russian Embassy whether she could attend a reception in Putin’s honor. She joined World War II veterans for their meeting with Puti

Mazal tov! Step siblings get engaged in bnei brak

A rare shidduch occurred this week to a family in Bnei Brak. A well known Rabbi, who was formerly a Jerusalem Resident, had gotten divorced eight years ago and married his second wife. Yesterday, his sixteen-and-a-half-year-old daughter from the first marriage got engaged to his stepson from the second marriage who is 23-years-old. The two have no blood relationship to each other. According to a report in Bechadrei Charedim , the joy felt in the family was very great indeed. The step-brother and sister interacted as siblings and even lived in the same home. “This is a very rare shidduch and is almost never found,” said Bechadrei in their report of the story. Up to this point, the shidduchim that are done within the family usually take place within the courts of the Admorim, where it is cus
