Friends who sang and danced at the wedding of Malky and Izzy Sapirstein just two weeks ago were shocked to learn that the young couple were not starting their married life in Lakewood. “I just assumed they would be around for this Elul zman,” said Hedy Braun, a close friend of the Kallah. “We were ready to have them over for a Shabbos meal and I had set aside the time to show her the best places to shop. Once I found out that she wasn’t going to live here I asked what was holding her back. She told me it wasn’t the basement apartments, or the low paying jobs, or the nasty traffic. She couldn’t put her finger on it but there was something that made her uncomfortable about this area. Looking back on my time in high school and seminary with her, she was always the type that wanted to be different.”
Hymie Abrams, a friend of the chosson, was equally surprised. “Everyone starts building their bayis ne’eman here. While it’s true that after a while some move away, like to Toms River or Jackson, starting life as a couple in Lakewood is simply the ideal rite of passage. We tracked Malky and Izzy to suburban Detroit. They did not want to elaborate on the factors that drove them from New Jersey but asked us to let their friends know they weren’t anti-Lakewood. They also expressed that thus far they are holding on and taking things day-to-day.

im totally serious – my brother in law is Izzy Sapirstein and hes married to a ‘Malkie’ but they live in California not Detroit so cant be them
